United States Reading, Comprehension, and Geography Packet

· · · ·

Ok.  Am I the only who can’t believe that it is August already?!?  It feels like May was just yesterday.  Where did the time go?  I’ve spent the summer travelling, setting and breaking exercise goals, and spending WAY too much time scrolling through Hulu and Netflix.  Can I also just say that I am completely addicted to Minute To Win It?!?  Ohmygosh!  I caught a few episodes several years ago but never really paid it much mind.  Several weeks ago I just happened to watch an episode on Hulu, and I am now addicted!  I want to organize a Minute To Win It party. Haha!  I HAVE to try some of these games out! Has anyone done this?  I’ve seen glimpses of how some teachers have incorporated the game into their classrooms.  Now that I’m a total Minute To Win It addict, I’m going to have to read up on the classroom version!

I’m horrible at blogging sometimes, but if you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen what I have been up to this summer.  Last month I visited Key West for the first time.  If you’ve never been, you MUST go! I absolutely loved it.  I had never experienced a major body of water other than the Atlantic Ocean before.  I loved the calm, warm, blue/green waters of the Gulf of Mexico.  I spent hours swimming and floating in the waters.  It was perfect. I totally recommend it!

On the way home, we stopped to spend the night in Orlando.  We didn’t have much time there but spent several hours at Downtown Disney.

Another thing that I have been working on this summer is this United States Fluency, Comprehension, and Geography Map Quizzes Packet.  Actually, to be quite honest, I have been working on it on and off for a year.  PHEW.  I am so happy and relieved to have finally completed it!

If you’re a regular reader, you know I am a history/geography nut, and this unit is a reflection of that. I have always tried to sneak in some history and geography into my classroom.  PLEASE tell me I’m not the only one whose heart breaks a little each time a student doesn’t know what state or country they live in?!?  They are missing out on SO much fun and interesting knowledge.

This packet will be a great addition to any US/Geography unit, non-fiction unit, or differentiated activity/reading for non-fiction-loving students.

It contains a reading passage and comprehension question sheet for each of the 50 states, regional posters, US map quizzes, state labeling quizzes, state and capital quizzes, region-labeling quizzes, and more!

This packet would be suitable for use with *advanced* second grade readers and above. Since this packet (50 passages) will require use over a period of time, the reading passages increase in difficulty over time. Comprehension questions are a mixture of multiple choice (3 options) and written response. Most state comprehension question sheets are a mixture, although some are completely multiple choice or written response. Questions include basic recall and higher-order thinking skills. Questions also increase in difficulty throughout the passages and are written on a second/third grade level. The passages could be used separately without the questions if the teacher desires.

It will be on sale for the rest of the today before going to full price tomorrow.

By the way, I’ve included several full-page samples in the preview on TPT, so you can make sure it will work with your readers before purchasing! 🙂
Have a SUPER week!
