United States Reading, Comprehension, and Geography Packet

· · · ·

Ok.  Am I the only who can’t believe that it is August already?!?  It feels like May was just yesterday.  Where did the time go?  I’ve spent the summer travelling, setting and breaking exercise goals, and spending WAY too much time scrolling through Hulu and Netflix.  Can I also just say that I am completely addicted to Minute To Win It?!?  Ohmygosh!  I caught a few episodes several years ago but never really paid it much mind.  Several weeks ago I just happened to watch an episode on Hulu, and I am now addicted!  I want to organize a Minute To Win It party. Haha!  I HAVE to try some of these games out! Has anyone done this?  I’ve seen glimpses of how some teachers have incorporated the game into their classrooms.  Now that I’m a total Minute To Win It addict, I’m going to have to read up on the classroom version!

I’m horrible at blogging sometimes, but if you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen what I have been up to this summer.  Last month I visited Key West for the first time.  If you’ve never been, you MUST go! I absolutely loved it.  I had never experienced a major body of water other than the Atlantic Ocean before.  I loved the calm, warm, blue/green waters of the Gulf of Mexico.  I spent hours swimming and floating in the waters.  It was perfect. I totally recommend it!

On the way home, we stopped to spend the night in Orlando.  We didn’t have much time there but spent several hours at Downtown Disney.

Another thing that I have been working on this summer is this United States 50 States Reading Comprehension Passages, US Regions Maps, and US Geography Map Quizzes packet.  Actually, to be quite honest, I have been working on it on and off for a year.  PHEW.  I am so happy and relieved to have finally completed it!

United States Fluency, Comprehension, and Geography Map Quizzes

Updated Product Cover

If you’re a regular reader, you know I am a history/geography nut, and this unit is a reflection of that. I have always tried to sneak in some history and geography into my classroom.  PLEASE tell me I’m not the only one whose heart breaks a little each time a student doesn’t know what state or country they live in?!?  They are missing out on SO much fun and interesting knowledge.

This packet will be a great addition to any US/Geography unit, non-fiction unit, or differentiated activity/reading for non-fiction-loving students.

It contains a reading passage and comprehension question sheet for each of the 50 states, regional posters, US map quizzes, state labeling quizzes, state and capital quizzes, region-labeling quizzes, and more!

Each state reading passage contains a mixture of information on state history, fun facts, and state attractions.  Included with each passage is a comprehension check consisting of multiple-choice and/or written response questions. Questions include basic recall and higher-order thinking skills. These passages can be used in a variety of settings –  whole group, small group, or independent work. The passages can also be used without the comprehension checks if desired.  This resource is intended for Second Grade-Fifth Grade. Students will have a blast learning fascinating facts about each state while also learning United States geography skills!

This resource is broken into regions of the United States.  Each US region contains a poster, a reading passage and comprehension check for each of the 50 states, and a label-it quiz for each region.  At the conclusion of this resource, a United States map, United States regions map, state outline quizzes, find and color map activity, state quiz, state and capital quiz, and links to state tourism videos are included.
